Sporting Lisbon has secured defender Filipe Monteiro with an early contract extension, just four months after his arrival, signaling the club’s confidence in the 21-year-old Portuguese talent.
The 21-year-old central player expressed pride in the new deal, acknowledging his quick adjustment to the Portuguese giants. He admitted he did not expect the extension to come so swiftly after joining from ABC.
“I felt I had the capacity to help the team and merit a vote of confidence,” Monteiro told the club’s official website. “Things have gone well, I’ve been able to help the team, and I think that’s why they wanted to renew with me.”
He added that he is “very happy with this renewal” because he is settled at the club, enjoys the people, and feels his work is being recognized.
Monteiro emphasized that the new contract would not alter his fundamental approach to the game. He vowed to maintain maximum effort in every training session and match.
“My way of being is always the same: to give my maximum in every training session and in every game,” he stated. “Always help the team as much as possible to achieve our objectives.”
Sporting’s stated objectives for the season include contending for all national titles. The team also aims to deliver a strong performance in the Champions League, aspiring to match or surpass last year’s showing.
Monteiro concluded by noting the competitive nature of football, saying, “There are no easy games, but we are also good and have already proven that we can beat any team.”
