Former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a sweeping, permanent halt to immigration from what he termed “Third World countries,” signaling a drastic overhaul of U.S. immigration policy should he return to office.
Trump announced the plan on his Truth Social platform. He contended the decision would allow the United States to “fully recover” from previous immigration policies. He claimed these policies have “deteriorated the lives of American citizens.”
“I will end Biden’s millions of illegal admissions,” Trump stated in the post.
He further elaborated on harsh measures. “We will remove anyone who is not an asset to the U.S., who is incapable of loving our country,” Trump said.
He also promised to “end all federal benefits and subsidies for non-citizens.” Additionally, he vowed to “revoke the nationality of migrants who threaten internal tranquility.”
Trump stated that those affected by these stricter migration policies “will not stay here long.” However, he did not provide specific details on how his administration would execute the plan. The former president also did not name the countries that might be included in such an exclusion list.
These comments follow an incident earlier in the week where an Afghan national shot two U.S. National Guard members in Washington D.C. On Wednesday, Trump had already suspended all immigration requests from Afghan citizens. He cited “security protocols” as the reason for that decision.
The controversial declarations also come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela. Trump has publicly suggested a ground military intervention in Venezuela.
U.S. forces have already initiated attacks on vessels. These ships are suspected of belonging to drug trafficking networks originating from Venezuela.
