FC Porto is awaiting an official medical assessment following midfielder Alan Varela’s early departure from a recent match due to a knee and tibia injury.
Coach Francesco Farioli confirmed the injury after the game, stating that Varela sustained “a very strong blow to a knee and the tibia.”
Farioli decided to remove the player at halftime, noting that Varela was limping at the match’s conclusion. The full extent of the injury is expected to be clarified on Friday.
The incident occurred in the 21st minute when Varela collided with an opponent, Dante, and went down clutching his left knee.
After receiving medical attention on the field, Varela initially rose and returned to play, seemingly without immediate issue.
However, concerns resurfaced at the break, leading to his substitution for Bednarek.
