Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn has received significant relief from the Delhi High Court regarding the protection of his personality rights. The court issued orders to remove inappropriate content circulating under his name.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora presided over the case. The court explicitly prohibited several defendants from utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology to exploit Devgn’s personality traits.
This directive specifically applies to the actor, also known by his real name Vishal Veeru Devgn. The court also mandated the removal of certain deepfake material uploaded to the internet.
Justice Arora stated that interim orders would be issued in a phased manner. This ensures a systematic approach to addressing the misuse of the actor’s persona.
Praveen Anand, Devgn’s lawyer, informed the court that defendants were creating commercial merchandise. This included items like caps, stickers, and posters.
The lawyer added that the defendants were mimicking Devgn and posting images that portrayed him poorly alongside other celebrities.
During the hearing, the court questioned if the lawyer had filed objections with platforms like YouTube and Google regarding the offensive content. Anand responded that no such complaints had been filed.
The court then indicated it would instruct the petitioner to first register cases with social media intermediaries. It emphasized that an order to remove obscene material would follow this procedure.
The Delhi High Court has also issued summons to several defendants involved in the misuse of Devgn’s personality.
This case is part of a growing trend among Indian celebrities. Many prominent figures have approached the courts to protect their personality rights.
Stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Rishab Shetty, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, and Akkineni Nagarjuna have also sought similar legal recourse.
