Braga Coach Vicens: “Prefer Not to Speak on Refereeing, Not Positive for Anyone”

Sp. Braga coach Carlos Vicens refused to comment on the referee’s decisions following his team’s 1-1 draw against Rangers, instead focusing praise on his players’ resilient performance despite an early red card.

“I prefer not to talk about it,” Vicens told DAZN after the Europa League match. He added, “I would say things that are not positive for anyone.”

Vicens underscored his decision to concentrate on what he could control: his team’s improvement. He expressed strong satisfaction with their display.

The Portuguese club played the final 36 minutes with 10 men after midfielder Rodrigo Zalazar was expelled in the 61st minute. This occurred during the match at Ibrox Park.

Despite the disadvantage, Sp. Braga demonstrated more ball possession. Vicens noted the team’s continued ambition, pressing for a second goal even with one less player.

“More than valuing the result, it is the image of this team, which gives everything in the game,” Vicens stated. He highlighted the players’ effort for their supporters.

Sp. Braga started well but failed to convert early opportunities against the “elite” Rangers side. A penalty against them just before halftime meant they went into the break trailing.

Vicens confirmed two substitutions were prepared when Zalazar received the red card. The coaching staff had to quickly readjust tactics and manage player fatigue.

They delayed changes to monitor physical condition. Defender Gabri was eventually substituted due to a yellow card, despite contributing offensively.

“I wanted to come here to win,” Vicens acknowledged. While rarely satisfied with a single point, Vicens affirmed his pride in the team’s “posture.”
