Bollywood star Aamir Khan recently shared a touching anecdote involving the late legendary actor Dharmendra and Khan’s son, Azad. This personal reflection comes as the industry mourns Dharmendra’s passing.
Khan recounted the story during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. He explained his desire for Azad to meet Dharmendra, particularly since his son was not familiar with the veteran actor’s extensive body of work.
“Often I used to go and sit with Dharam ji,” Khan stated, using a term of respect for Dharmendra. “One day I took my son Azad along and said that I want you to meet someone because Azad has not really seen his work.”
Khan continued, “He came with me and we spent a few hours with Dharam ji, it was really fantastic.” The experience evidently left a strong impression on Khan.
Khan also praised Dharmendra’s character beyond his acting prowess. He described him as “not only a great actor, but he was also a great human being.”
“He was very simple, natural, and lovely,” Khan elaborated. “He met everyone with a lot of love and happiness, no matter who they were.”
Khan called Dharmendra “an institution,” highlighting the lasting influence of his work. He specifically mentioned Dharmendra’s film ‘Satyakam’ as continuing to offer lessons.
“He was an amazing person,” Khan concluded, emphasizing the industry’s collective grief. “His passing is a great loss for all of us.”
Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at the age of 89. His death marks a significant loss for Indian cinema.
The Deol family organized a prayer meeting for the late superstar in Mumbai on November 27.
Azad Rao Khan is the son of Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. His parents divorced in 2021.
