Benfica, Sportiva Eliminated from EuroCup Women After Sixth Straight Loss

Portuguese women’s basketball teams Benfica and Sportiva were eliminated from the EuroCup competition after suffering their sixth consecutive defeats on Wednesday, remaining winless.

Both clubs lost their latest group stage matches by significant margins. Neither team had any mathematical chance of advancing to the Round of 16 prior to these sixth-round games.

Benfica traveled to the Czech Republic, where they faced SBS Ostrava in Group K. They lost 85-52, a 33-point difference. Ostrava led 41-21 at halftime.

Benfica managed to play even in the first (18-13) and third (15-15) quarters but struggled through the rest of the game. Ostrava’s Iva Belosevic and Oliana Squires were top scorers with 15 points each. Letícia Soares led Benfica with 13 points.

Meanwhile, Sportiva played NKA Universitas Pecs in Hungary, conceding an even larger 97-59 defeat in Group C. Pecs leads the group and remains undefeated.

Sportiva found themselves significantly behind early, trailing 17-3 after the first quarter. Pecs extended their lead to 32-20 by halftime. Panka Dul scored 15 points for Pecs. Bella Nascimento led Sportiva with 18 points, followed by Ana Clara Paz with 16 points.
