Ibrahim Ali Khan: Dharmendra Launched My Mom Amrita Singh at 16, Started Our Film Dynasty

Veteran actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24, 2025, following a prolonged illness. The news has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and celebrities across social media.

Among those sharing condolences was Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, who posted a deeply personal message. His tribute highlighted a crucial, lesser-known connection between Dharmendra and his family’s entry into the film industry.

Khan recounted how Dharmendra discovered his mother, Amrita Singh, when she was just 16 years old in Delhi. Dharmendra subsequently cast her in his 1983 film Betaab, marking her debut.

Ibrahim wrote, "If Dharmendra ji had not been there, perhaps at 16 years old, Mummy Amrita would never have left Delhi, and our entire family would not be in this film industry today. Our lives began because of him. He gave Mummy her break in the film Betaab."
