Everton’s Gana Gueye Apologizes for Hitting Teammate: ‘It Won’t Happen Again’

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye was sent off during Monday’s match against Manchester United after physically assaulting his teammate Michael Keane, prompting a swift public apology from Gueye.

The incident occurred just 13 minutes into the first half when Gueye, a Senegalese international, confronted Keane on the pitch. Gueye slapped and pushed the central defender before being shown a red card.

Everton went on to win the match 1-0 against Manchester United, despite playing most of the game with 10 men.

Gueye later took to social media, issuing an apology to Keane, his teammates, the club staff, and the fans. He acknowledged full responsibility for his actions.

“First of all, I want to apologize to my teammate Michael Keane,” Gueye wrote in an Instagram story. “I take full responsibility for my reaction.”

He added that the behavior did not reflect his character or values. Gueye assured that such an incident would not happen again.
