Bollywood legend Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89. The veteran actor died on Monday, November 24, 2025, after a period of battling age-related health issues.
His demise has sent shockwaves through the Deol family and the wider Indian cinema industry. Dharmendra had been receiving treatment at home following a recent hospitalization at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
Filmmaker Karan Johar was among the first to confirm the news, posting a heartfelt tribute on social media. Johar wrote that “an era has ended,” honoring the iconic star.
Following the announcement, numerous Bollywood celebrities, including actor Amitabh Bachchan, were seen arriving at Dharmendra’s residence to pay their respects. Members of the Deol family were also present.
Dharmendra, born on December 8, 1935, remained active in his craft until his passing. His final cinematic appearance will be in the upcoming film ‘Ikkiis.’
In ‘Ikkiis,’ Dharmendra portrays the father of a young army officer, Arun Khetarpal. Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson, Agastya Nanda, stars as Khetarpal.
The film, which tells the story of the 21-year-old officer’s sacrifice for the nation, is slated for release on December 25.
