Benfica ‘Red Devils’ Leader’s Death Ruled Suicide, Not Homicide; Fans Mourn

The death of Sérgio Caetano, a prominent leader of the Portuguese Benfica football fan group “Diabos Vermelhos,” has sparked an investigation into its cause while drawing condolences from supporter clubs across Spain.

Caetano was discovered deceased inside his car on Friday evening.
Portuguese authorities initially investigated the death as a potential homicide.
However, investigators now indicate evidence points to suicide.
A pistol was found near his body within the vehicle.
News of his passing quickly prompted tributes from various Spanish fan communities.
On Sunday, a fan group from Mérida, Spain, displayed a banner in his honor. The banner read: “Caetano eternal Devil, RIP.”

Another Spanish fan organization, “Legiones Sur 92,” posted their condolences on social media.
They conveyed their “deep regret for the loss of our Benfica brother Caetano.” They added, “We send a big hug to all the Benfica family.”
