Casa Pia Halts Giant-Killer Alpendorada’s Portuguese Cup Dream

Casa Pia, a top-flight Portuguese football club, secured its place in the Taça de Portugal round of 16, ending the underdog run of third-tier Alpendorada with a 3-0 away victory.

The win prevented another upset from Alpendorada, who had previously eliminated fellow first-division side Estrela da Amadora 3-1 in the prior round.

Despite making six changes to their starting lineup, Casa Pia, from Portugal’s Betclic League, managed the game effectively.

Abdou Conté opened the scoring in the 45th minute, giving Casa Pia a lead before halftime.

Sebastián Pérez extended the lead in the 81st minute.

Substitute Livolant sealed the victory with a direct free kick in the first minute of stoppage time, making the final score 3-0.

Alpendorada, playing at their home ground, Estádio Municipal de Alpendorada, showed resilience, including a header hitting the post in the 40th minute.

The home team had a chance to equalize in the 60th minute but failed to convert.

Around 2,000 spectators attended the match.

The result was considered harsh on Alpendorada given the balance of play for significant portions of the match.

Casa Pia’s coach Gonçalo Brandão rotated his squad, while Nuno Barbosa managed the Alpendorada side.

Referee Iancu Vasilica issued yellow cards to André Geraldes, Kevin Prieto, and Tavares during the game.
