One person was found dead and 25 others were injured after a fire swept through the eighth floor of an apartment building in the Lisbon district of Mira Sintra early Friday.
Authorities confirmed the discovery of the deceased individual, who had been reported missing after the blaze. The information was provided by a source from the Sub-Regional Command of Greater Lisbon to the Lusa news agency.
Among the 25 people who suffered smoke inhalation injuries, five were transported to a hospital. Two officers from Portugal’s Public Security Police were also among the injured.
Firefighters had been actively searching for the missing person since the fire broke out in the early morning hours.
The incident occurred in a building located in the Sintra municipality. The fire was confined to the eighth floor.
Emergency services received the alert around 03:53 a.m. local time (02:53 GMT). By 07:15 a.m. local time, 30 emergency personnel were on site.
The response included firefighters from local departments, the National Medical Emergency Institute, and the Public Security Police. They were supported by 13 vehicles.
The building was evacuated, and authorities are now assessing the structural integrity of the property.
