Euro 2016 Champion Rui Patrício Considers Retiring at 37

Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patrício, a Euro 2016 champion and veteran of 108 international caps, is contemplating retirement at age 37, a football market journalist reported.

Patrício, currently a free agent, has been evaluating his future since playing two games for Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates during the Club World Cup.

Nicolò Schira, a specialist in football transfers, was the first to report Patrício’s consideration of ending his career.

A key figure for Portugal, Patrício’s international career includes the nation’s victory at the 2016 European Championship. He has made 108 appearances for his national team.

He began his professional career with Sporting CP in 2006/07, making 467 appearances for the Portuguese club.

In 2018/19, he moved to England, where he spent three seasons with Wolverhampton.

Patrício later played in Italy for Roma and Atalanta before his recent brief stint with Al Ain.
