Warner Bros Sues Turkish Footballer for Harry Potter IP Use

Warner Bros Entertainment Inc. has initiated legal proceedings in Turkey against prominent footballer Kerem Aktürkoglu, alleging unauthorized use of its valuable Harry Potter intellectual property in his public celebrations and social media activity.

The lawsuit, filed at the Istanbul Intellectual and Industrial Rights Court, contends that Aktürkoglu’s references to “Harry Potter,” “Hogwarts,” and “Gryffindor” infringe on the entertainment giant’s patented trademarks. Warner Bros asserts these brands possess significant commercial value.

The company maintains that the 27-year-old Turkish international does not have permission for the direct references he frequently makes. Court documents highlight instances where the Fenerbahçe winger allegedly used the iconic “Hedwig’s Theme” music and animated figures from the Harry Potter universe in his social media posts.

Warner Bros is also seeking expert analysis of Aktürkoglu’s online content as part of the legal action.
