Pedro Lima: AVS SAD ‘United, Striving for First Victory’

AVS SAD is targeting an upcoming Portuguese Cup fixture as a crucial opportunity to reverse its winless start to the league season.

Midfielder Pedro Lima, recently voted Most Valuable Player by fans following a 2-2 league draw against Gil Vicente, conveyed the team’s determination. He affirmed the squad is united and working towards the same goal despite not yet securing a league victory.

“The evolution is clear, the work is being done well, the squad is united and striving for the same goal,” Lima stated. “It’s a matter of details; we have improved a lot.”

The club battled back to secure a point in their recent league match against Gil Vicente, a team that had previously only conceded goals to top-tier clubs Benfica and FC Porto. AVS SAD recovered from being down, even after a missed penalty.

Lima acknowledged the point was valuable given the challenging circumstances and the strength of their opponent. He expressed confidence that the team’s first victory will arrive “at the right time” to initiate a positive run.

The immediate focus for the club is Saturday’s Portuguese Cup match against Ac. Viseu. Ac. Viseu is currently performing well in the second division.

“It’s game by game,” Lima explained. “It’s about winning and, for now, qualifying for the next phase.”

The team’s positive momentum could also see 42-year-old veteran forward Nenê earn a starting position. His strong performance against Gil Vicente may lead the coach to select him over usual starter Tomané for the upcoming cup tie.

Lima also noted his personal adaptation to Portuguese football. He feels more at ease and influential within the team, reflecting that individual performances improve when the collective strengthens.
