Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James recently reflected on his family life and career milestones. He spoke about his son Bronny moving out, offering a glimpse into the challenges even NBA legends face with an empty nest.
James made the comments after the Lakers’ 140-126 victory over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, November 18. Bronny, 21, is currently a teammate with the Lakers.
“I think he’s enjoying the process,” James stated when asked about Bronny’s professional development. “He’s no longer a resident, so we don’t talk as much. He has his own place.”
James, 40, light-heartedly looked off-camera and called out, “Bronny, how are you!?”
Bronny is the eldest son of LeBron and Savannah James. The couple also shares son Bryce, 18, and daughter Zhuri, 11.
LeBron has often been candid about his family. In October, he discussed his relationship with his wife, Savannah, 39, on her podcast “Everybody’s Crazy.”
“I know I don’t want to be alone, I’m absolutely sure of that,” James said. “I have to fight, crawl, scratch, bite, whatever to keep what’s mine.”
He continued, “I have to do what I have to do. I don’t want to be alone. I am an only child, from a single-parent family.”
The month prior, during an appearance on the “360 With Speedy” podcast, James acknowledged that his marriage to Savannah is not “ideal.”
“A relationship is never ideal,” he explained. “But if you’re willing to go through the difficulties and the adverse moments, then everything will be worth it.”
He added that they have been together since high school. “Things are not always going to be a bed of roses, man, in any relationship, let alone with someone you’ve been living with for 20 years.”
Tuesday also marked James’s season debut. He had missed the first 14 games due to sciatica.
He scored 11 points and provided 12 assists in the Lakers’ win. This extended his record to 1,293 consecutive games with double-digit scoring.
“It was fun being out there with the guys,” James said after the game. “This is the first time I’ve started a basketball season and haven’t played since I started playing, like at 9 years old.”
Now in his historic 23rd season, James’s future in the league remains a topic of discussion. A primary goal for him has been to share the court with his son.
James previously spoke about this aspiration when Bronny was in high school and a freshman at USC. This is their second season playing together.
“I need to be on the court with my boy, I have to be on the court with Bronny,” he said in 2023. “Whether in the same uniform or facing him. I’d love to do the Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. thing. That would be ideal.”
