Spanish authorities have recovered high-value jewelry stolen from the Turkish national football team’s locker room and made an arrest, following a reported theft after a recent match against Spain.
The stolen items included a watch valued at approximately $216,000, and two rings, each worth around $64,800. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at about $345,600.
The theft occurred at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville shortly after the Turkish delegation, led by coach Vincenzo Montella, returned to their changing room following the match.
Initially, the team informed organizers they might have forgotten the items. They later realized the belongings were missing due to theft and filed a formal complaint.
The investigation is ongoing, with Spanish authorities working to determine if additional individuals were involved. Detectives are also exploring whether the culprits were unauthorized infiltrators or collaborators working at the stadium.
The incident took place after a recent friendly match where Turkey played Spain, resulting in a 2-2 draw. Turkey finished second in Group E and is slated to compete in the World Cup playoffs.
The Spanish newspaper Marca first reported the recovery and arrest.
