Angelique Boyer, Brandon Peniche’s Chemistry Ignites Classic Telenovela Remake

The evident chemistry between Angelique Boyer and Brandon Peniche is poised to be a cornerstone of the new telenovela, Doménica Montero. Both actors acknowledge that working together has been a profound human experience, shaping this modern adaptation of a classic melodrama. This connection proved vital for portraying their complex characters.

Peniche, speaking exclusively, shared that the experience was "a joy." He added, "We grew as people and as actors." Boyer echoed this sentiment, noting, "We sheltered each other as colleagues, and that is felt every day. The generosity on set changes everything." This mutual understanding was crucial for a narrative demanding emotional and physical vulnerability.

Boyer portrays Doménica, a powerful and respected woman who faces betrayal on her wedding day when she is abandoned at the altar. Humiliated and scrutinized by society, she seeks refuge in an old family hacienda. There, she embarks on a new journey filled with challenges, hidden secrets, and an unexpected bond with Luis Fernando, played by Marcus Ornellas.

Peniche takes on the role of Genaro, an intense and enigmatic character. He credits his deep connection with Boyer for enabling him to explore new emotional depths in his performance, going beyond his comfort zone. "None of that would have been possible without a colleague like Angelique," he stated. "It’s impossible to do a character like this alone."

The chemistry on set unfolded under considerable pressure. Doménica Montero joins a significant lineage of Latin American telenovelas. Previous versions include La Doña (1972), La Dueña (1995) starring Angélica Rivera, and Soy tu dueña (2010) with Lucero. Each adaptation has left its mark on audiences.

Boyer addressed the high expectations, recalling advice from Mónica Miguel. "Expectations are always high, but Mónica Miguel once told me: ‘The rating should not matter to the actor.’ Our job is to make every day transcend the screen," Boyer explained.

For Boyer, this production also marks a reunion with writer Ximena Suárez. They last collaborated 15 years ago on Teresa, one of Boyer’s most iconic roles. Both return to this project with years of gained maturity, experience, and artistic evolution. "I am not the same Angelique of 22 who did Teresa," Boyer asserted. "This story and this character arrive at my best moment."

The authenticity sought by both actors was further amplified by the production’s use of real locations and immersive studios. Boyer noted, "It was impossible not to get into character." She described how environmental elements like "mosquitoes, heat, sweat, the terrain… everything changes your energy."

This physical demands strengthened their bond. Peniche added, "You feel it when you’re next to someone who works from the heart. That inspires you."

Doménica Montero, written by Ximena Suárez and based on original works by Inés Rodena and Caridad Bravo Adams, promises to be a deeply emotional, modern, and visually compelling melodrama. The esteemed cast includes Diego Amozurrutia, Verónica Merchant, Arcelia Ramírez, Alejandro Ávila, Nuria Bages, and Alberto Estrella, among others.

Directed by Carlos Cock Marín, Juan Pablo Blanco, and Carlos Santos, the production aims to honor its legacy while captivating new audiences. Doménica Montero is set to premiere on December 8 and will air Monday through Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern / 8 p.m. Central on Univision.
