Huma Qureshi: ‘Enjoy Playing Grey Characters’ in Delhi Crime 3

Actress Huma Qureshi is currently garnering significant attention for her role in the recently released third season of ‘Delhi Crime’. She also made headlines for her work in ‘Maharani 4’.

Qureshi plays a negative, or “grey,” character in ‘Delhi Crime 3’. She discussed her approach to such complex roles with PTI.

The actress expressed her enjoyment of portraying “light grey characters.” However, she described her current role as “dark, as dark as it can be and also brilliant.”

She recounted receiving encouragement from her co-actors to take on “bad characters.” Qureshi interpreted these suggestions as a compliment.

Her aim was to make the character feel “very real.” She sought to avoid creating a “cardboard-like cinematic villain.”

This effort included incorporating specific elements, such as using the Haryanvi dialect. These choices helped ground the character in reality.

Qureshi considers herself fortunate in her acting process. She does not require specific environments, music, or perfumes to prepare for a role.

Her method involves a brief 10-second silence before a shot. Extensive homework, including repeatedly reading the script, is completed well in advance.

She emphasizes the importance of surrendering to the moment. This happens between the “action” and “cut” commands.

‘Delhi Crime 3’ is directed by Tanuj Chopra. Qureshi portrays Meena, also known as ‘Badi Didi’.

Meena is a powerful figure entrenched in a human trafficking network. The series explores this dark subject matter.

The cast also includes acclaimed actors Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, and Rajesh Tailang. The series premiered on Netflix on November 13.
