SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated film “Varanasi” unveiled its first official teaser and Mahesh Babu’s first look as the character Rudra during a live event in Hyderabad. The grand reveal marks the beginning of the journey for the film, slated for a 2027 release.
The teaser opens with magnificent visuals of Varanasi city. It then shows ancient sages performing a ritual. An asteroid is born from the sacrificial fire, plummeting from the sky into an icy Antarctic river.
Scenes from Africa follow, showcasing diverse wildlife, leading to a glimpse of a monkey and then a more direct appearance of Hanuman. Hanuman is depicted in a motion poster setting Lanka ablaze and lifting a mountain.
The teaser culminates at Varanasi’s Manikarnika Ghat, where Mahesh Babu appears as Rudra, holding a trident. He is also seen seated on Nandi, exciting fans with his initial portrayal.
The “GlobeTrotter” event, attended by Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and director SS Rajamouli, saw the teaser launched with elaborate visual effects. The film’s grand scale is evident through the sophisticated VFX used in the teaser.
Mahesh Babu expressed his commitment to the project, stating, “I will make everyone proud! Most importantly, I will make my director proud. After Varanasi is released, the whole country will be proud.” His remarks underscored the high expectations surrounding the film.
SS Rajamouli shared his personal connection to the story. He revealed that making films based on the Ramayana and Mahabharata has been a lifelong dream. He expressed surprise at the opportunity to adapt such a significant part of the Ramayana so early in his career.
Rajamouli also spoke about Mahesh Babu’s casting. He recalled getting goosebumps when Mahesh first appeared in a Lord Ram costume for a photoshoot. He noted Mahesh Babu possesses both the charm of Krishna and the peace of Ram, confirming his confidence in the actor.
