Portugal Goalkeeper Diogo Costa’s Error Gifts Ireland Goal

A defensive error by Portugal’s goalkeeper contributed to Ireland securing an unexpected early lead during their recent international match.

Ireland’s Troy Parrott capitalized on the miscue, scoring the opening goal in the 17th minute. The striker found the net following a corner kick, putting his team ahead.

The critical sequence began when Portugal’s goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, hesitated with a back-pass, allowing Parrott to intercept the ball deep in Portuguese territory.

Defender Gonçalo Inácio then became entangled with Parrott, conceding a corner kick to the Irish side. The subsequent set-piece led directly to the goal.

From the ensuing corner, a pass from Scales found Parrott at the far post, who easily converted to give Ireland the advantage.
