Portuguese football club FC Porto faces disciplinary action following an incident where its supporters broke glass at a rival stadium, injuring 14 people during a match in August.
The Disciplinary Council initiated the proceedings against FC Porto after an inquiry into damage at Sporting’s Alvalade Stadium. The incident occurred on August 30 during a high-profile rivalry match between the two clubs.
FC Porto supporters were identified as responsible for breaking the glass panels. The shattered glass fell onto Sporting fans who were seated in a lower section of the stadium.
The breakage coincided with FC Porto scoring its first goal in the match. The visiting team ultimately won the game by a score of 2-1.
The Disciplinary Council stated it found no evidence implicating Sporting in the incident. Therefore, no disciplinary action was taken against Sporting for the episode.
