Etrange Overlord: Disgaea Creator’s Musical RPG Sends Executed Princess to Rule Hell

NIS America has announced “Etrange Overlord,” a new musical action role-playing game where a sweet-toothed noblewoman, executed for a crime she didn’t commit, must conquer the underworld after finding herself in hell.

The game is a collaboration between publisher NIS America, developer Gemdrops, and BROCCOLI. It is slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.

Players will embody Étrange von Rosenburg, a duke’s daughter who, despite her false accusation and execution, retains her love for sweets and aims to take charge of the fiery afterlife. The narrative is described as a blend of humor and emotion.

Sohei Niikawa, known for his work on “Disgaea” and “Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure,” is the creator behind “Etrange Overlord.”

Gameplay features a unique “spinning track” mechanic, where items, upgrades, and even characters circulate across the map during fast-paced action sequences. Players can shoot, dodge, and slash their way through battlefields.

The game also includes a separate multiplayer mode, allowing two to four players to join forces. Étrange’s insatiable craving for sweets can be satisfied to gain temporary enhancements and bonuses.

Character designs are crafted by legendary illustrator Shinichiro Otsuka, who brings a vibrant cast of allies and subordinates from across hell to life. The story follows Étrange’s quest to live her best life in the underworld, complete with musical numbers.

A limited edition of the game is planned for purchase. Additional details regarding this special edition are expected to be unveiled on November 13.
