Griezmann’s Bench Brace Secures 3-1 Win for Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann scored two second-half goals after coming off the bench, propelling Atlético Madrid to a 3-1 victory over Levante on Saturday and provisionally into third place in the Spanish League standings.

Griezmann’s performance secured Atlético’s eighth consecutive home win at the Metropolitano stadium. The win also marked their fourth straight victory in the league.

Atlético Madrid now sits with 25 points. This places them five points behind current league leader Real Madrid. The result puts pressure on both Real Madrid and second-placed FC Barcelona in the title race.

Atlético initially took the lead against Levante with an own goal by Dela in the 12th minute. Levante then equalized through Manu Sánchez in the 21st minute.

Griezmann entered the match and scored his crucial goals in the 61st and 80th minutes, sealing the victory. Levante had a potential injury-time goal from Carlos Alvarez disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside.

In other league action, Girona ended a three-match winless streak, which included two losses and a draw, by beating Alavés 1-0 at home. Ukrainian Viktor Tsygarkov scored the lone goal for Girona in the 16th minute. Girona is now 16th with 10 points, while Alavés is ninth with 15 points.

Sevilla also returned to winning ways after three consecutive league defeats, defeating Osasuna 1-0 at home. Swiss player Ruben Vargas converted a penalty in the 51st minute for Sevilla. Sevilla is currently eighth with 16 points, aiming for spots in UEFA competitions, and Osasuna is 15th with 11 points.
