Rashmika Mandanna’s new film, “The Girlfriend,” has opened to a disappointing box office reception. The movie’s initial two-day collections have fallen significantly short of expectations.
The film, which debuted this past Friday, grossed an estimated $156,000 USD on its opening day. It saw a modest increase on Saturday, its second day, collecting approximately $259,000 USD.
This brings its total two-day box office haul to around $414,000 USD. This figure contrasts sharply with its reported production budget of roughly $5.03 million USD.
Directed by Rahul Ravindran, “The Girlfriend” stars Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty. The cast also features Anu Emmanuel, Rohini, Kaushik Mehta, and Rao Ramesh.
The narrative of “The Girlfriend” centers on the story of a simple young woman. Allu Aravind, Dheeraj Mogilineni, and Koppinidi Vidya produced the film.
“The Girlfriend” faced competition from other new releases at the box office. These included Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s “Haq,” which also had a slow start but showed some improvement on its second day.
Sonakshi Sinha’s “Jatadhara” performed even worse, managing to collect an estimated $222,000 USD over its first two days. “The Girlfriend” is now in a challenging position as it heads into its first Sunday in theaters.
