Seventy-three FC Porto football fans were quickly released in the Netherlands on Wednesday, November 6, after paying fines for alleged public violence on a bus, an incident for which an alternative account blames rival supporters.
Utrecht police confirmed the arrests, stating the fans were detained for damaging the bus they were traveling in. Each individual paid a fine of 290 euros (approximately $315 USD).
Following the payment, all those detained were immediately set free by authorities.
However, local media reports indicated that supporters of Dutch club Utrecht were responsible for breaking a window on the bus.
The Utrecht police department issued a statement via social media confirming the arrests and the swift resolution.
