In the days following a major robbery at the Louvre Museum, false police photographs of alleged suspects have gained significant traction online. Social media users began sharing these images, mistakenly linking actor Chace Crawford and dancer Stefan Dolbashian to the theft.
The actual robbery occurred on October 19. Four individuals reportedly perpetrated a seven-minute heist in the Louvre’s Galerie d’Apollon, stealing jewels valued at $100 million. The stolen items have not yet been recovered.
French authorities have detained several individuals in connection with the crime. However, the viral mugshots circulating are not of these official suspects.
One widely shared image features Chace Crawford, known for his role in Gossip Girl, alongside Stefan Dolbashian. Crawford’s photo dates back to his 2010 arrest. That case was dismissed in 2011, with minor drug possession charges not remaining on his record. He completed community service, reported to a probation officer, and avoided further arrests.
Dolbashian’s circulating photo also stems from a 2010 arrest for robbery charges. These charges were subsequently dropped, and he has no convictions.
The dancer spoke to Today about the unexpected virality. He stated, "Initially, I took it as a joke, not giving it much importance." He added, "But that same day and for several days after, it seemed almost everyone I’ve ever known contacted me asking if the photo was mine."
Dolbashian further reacted to the situation with humor on Instagram. He quipped that he had decided to abandon his performing arts career. He joked about joining Crawford for "international thievery around the world."
He followed up by saying the situation was "hilarious." Dolbashian expressed gratitude for everyone reaching out to him. He concluded his playful post by stating, "The Louvre was just the beginning!!"
Regarding the actual investigation, the Paris prosecutor has charged four individuals. Three suspects are accused of direct involvement in the organized gang robbery. An additional person believed to be involved remains at large.
