Le Mans’ Travante Williams on Basketball Champions League Defeat: ‘We Didn’t Play Our Best’

Le Mans players and coaching staff attributed their recent Champions League Group H defeat to Benfica to a lack of intensity and crucial late-game concentration, conceding the Portuguese side was the better team.

Portuguese international Travante Williams stated his team “didn’t play our best” and failed to be fully “present in the game” during the fourth matchday encounter on Wednesday.

Le Mans coach Guillaume Vizade echoed this assessment, citing carelessness in the first half and insufficient intensity from his squad.

Vizade highlighted Benfica’s dominance on the boards, securing 44 rebounds compared to Le Mans’ 26.

Despite these struggles, Le Mans briefly took the lead in the match. However, the team ultimately “lost concentration in the last minutes,” Vizade explained.

Both Williams and Vizade agreed that Benfica “deserved the victory” and “played better” overall. Williams’ national coach, Mário Gomes, was in the stands observing the game.
