Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia has stepped away from the team. His departure occurred on the eve of the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The team announced he and his wife, Kayla Vesia, are managing a “very personal family matter.”
“It is with a heavy heart that we share Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a very personal family matter,” the Dodgers posted on Instagram. “The entire Dodgers organization sends our thoughts to the Vesia family and we will provide an update at a later time.”
Manager Dave Roberts stated Vesia was considered “day-to-day.” However, Roberts held no expectations for the left-hander’s immediate return. Vesia was ultimately left off the team’s World Series roster.
The news prompted an outpouring of support from Dodgers fans across social media. Many fans are familiar with Kayla Vesia due to her consistent presence alongside the team. She frequently celebrates the club’s victories with her husband and other players’ wives and girlfriends (WAGs).
Kayla Vesia first announced her pregnancy with the couple’s first child in April 2025. She has often shared updates on her social media channels, referencing the baby’s upcoming arrival.
The couple exchanged vows in January 2024, following their engagement in November 2022. Alex Vesia shared photos from their wedding day on Instagram, calling it “the best day of our lives.” He expressed gratitude to all who celebrated with them.
Kayla Vesia has built a substantial online following, boasting over 80,000 TikTok followers and 42,000 on Instagram. Her content focuses on her experiences as an MLB WAG, offering fans glimpses into stadium life and post-game celebrations.
She also maintains close relationships with other Dodgers wives. Her TikTok feed includes videos of joint fundraising efforts and social events. Chelsea Freeman, wife of Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, publicly requested prayers for the Vesia family on Instagram.
Kayla has been a staunch supporter throughout Alex’s baseball career. The couple has been together since at least 2019. She has documented their journey from his minor league days to his rise in Major League Baseball. Alex once thanked her on Instagram in 2019 for traveling to see him pitch while he played for the Clinton LumberKings.
