Portuguese Tennis Shines: Cabral/Miedler Reach Stockholm Quarters, Two Challenger Wins

Portuguese tennis players secured significant advances in international tournaments this week, with a prominent doubles pair dominating the ATP 250 Stockholm and two singles players progressing in the Challenger Shenzhen.

In Stockholm, Sweden, the second-seeded duo of Francisco Cabral of Portugal and Lucas Miedler of Austria swept into the quarterfinals. They dispatched Swedish wild cards Leo Borg and Nikola Slavic with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory.

The match lasted only 48 minutes, underscoring the pair’s strong form. Cabral and Miedler are now considered among the favorites for the ATP 250 title. They currently rank 13th in the ATP Race to the Finals in Turin.

Meanwhile, in Shenzhen, China, two Portuguese singles players also recorded wins at a Challenger event. Henrique Rocha, ranked 161st globally, defeated Switzerland’s Luca Castelnuovo, ranked 407th, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Frederico Silva, ranked 245th, overcame Japan’s 19-year-old Naoya Honda, ranked 795th, in a three-set battle. Silva rallied after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
