Braga’s Lelo Hits Career-High Assists, ‘Achieving Numbers I Aspire To’

Bragas Lelo Hits Career High Assists Achieving Numbers I Aspire To

The crowd at Sporting Clube de Braga has spoken. They named Leonardo Lelo their top player for September, and it’s easy to see why. The left-back has been a real engine for the team early in the 2025/26 season. He’s playing a big part in their attack.

Lelo has already hit a personal best in assists. He has six of them in just 13 games. That matches his career high, showing how much he adds to Braga’s offense. He told club media how happy he was about the award. He also spoke about his first months with the team.

He calls his time at Braga a “unique experience.” Individually, things are going great. “I’m hitting the numbers I wanted,” he said. “I’m happy about that.” For the team, he knows they can be better. “We want to improve,” Lelo explained. “We’ll get to our desired level step by step.”

Getting used to the new city was simple for Lelo. He finds Braga a “small, welcoming city.” It’s not as busy as Lisbon, he noted. “I feel at home here,” he shared. The club also made him feel welcome. “Everyone received me wonderfully,” he said. This includes players, staff, and everyone else. “They are incredible people who provide everything for the players.”

Lelo fits well with the coach’s plans. “I adapted well to the playing style and the coach’s ideas,” he said. He’s played different roles, from wing to center back. “What matters to me is playing, no matter the position,” he added. He tries to learn everything for each spot. “I try to do my best, and it’s gone well.”

Playing for Braga means constant pressure. Lelo sees this as a good thing. “It’s the kind of pressure any player wants,” he remarked. Fans want wins, and the players feel the same way. Playing twice a week for three straight weeks is “incredible” to him. “We always want to play and be close to the fans,” he emphasized.

He is always looking to improve. “I try to learn from everyone,” Lelo noted, “whether they are older or younger.” He takes advice from others. “I listen to them as much as I can and put it into practice,” he said. This helps him get better every day.

The support from fans means a lot. “I get many messages,” Lelo shared. These messages show support and happiness with his work. “That’s what I aim for: to give them joy,” he stated. “I hope to keep doing my best and make them happy.”

Lelo keeps his goals simple for now. “I want to win the next game,” he said. “That’s how we must live day-to-day here.” Braga is a big club, and they always play to win. They started well in the Europa League. “We can do better in the league, and we’re working for that,” Lelo concluded.
