Renault 5 Turbo 3E Electric Mini-Supercar Dazzles at Tour de Corse Historique Debut

The famous Renault 5 Turbo is back, but it’s all electric this time. This new version, called the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, mixes modern tech with a nod to its past. It’s a compact supercar that showed its stuff for the first time at the Tour de Corse Historique. Fans loved seeing its quick moves, speed, and amazing drifts.

A Modern Echo of Rally Greats

Two advanced prototypes of the Turbo 3E showed their moves on October 5 and 6. They drove through Calvi port and famous roads like Notre Dame de la Serra and Montegrosso. This happened just before the rally officially began. The Tour de Corse event was extra special. It marked 40 years since Jean Ragnotti won with his Maxi 5 Turbo in 1985. So, it was the perfect stage for this new model to shine. You can learn more about this historic race at Wikipedia.

The crowds got to see the amazing 555-horsepower electric sports car up close. Renault’s ambassador, Julien Saunier, was behind the wheel. Saunier himself was also racing in the rally with a Maxi 5 Turbo, wearing Ragnotti’s colors. He said driving the new electric car felt like a real tribute to the soul of the first Renault 5 Turbo.

Alpine’s Engineering Marvel

The engineers at Alpine created the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. They built it on a strong aluminum frame with carbon fiber parts. This makes the car both light and stiff. Two electric motors power the rear wheels. These motors put out 204 kW each, totaling 555 horsepower. The car also delivers an instant 4,800 Nm of torque. This power means super-fast starts and incredibly nimble handling.

This small but powerful car is 4.08 meters long and 2.03 meters wide. Its length-to-width ratio is 2.01, which is great for a compact supercar. It lets drivers do controlled drifts, stop on a dime, and speed up quickly. The car weighs less than 1,450 kg. With a power-to-weight ratio of 2.5 and 43/57 weight distribution, it handles like a dream.

Saunier talked about the special feeling of driving this new electric car. It brought back the glory of past rallies. This made the moment exciting for both casual fans and car experts.

“Driving the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is an incredible experience! It’s truly everything you expect from a supercar — a real rally machine. I was impressed with the acceleration, which doesn’t lose intensity with speed, the powerful and precise braking, and how easily it allows spectacular yet controlled drifts. It was a very fun drive, full of new sensations. And, at the same time, it was in the colors of the ‘Philips’ Maxi 5 Turbo from 1985, just like the one I’m driving in this historic Tour de Corse. It’s our tribute to the 40th anniversary of Jean Ragnotti’s victory.” Julien Saunier, Renault ambassador driver.

The customization process starts in 2026. This allows each buyer to make their Renault 5 Turbo 3E truly one-of-a-kind. They can choose from historic colors or create exclusive “gentleman driver” designs. This detailed process ensures every car becomes a special piece of auto history.
