Pop superstar Taylor Swift recently lit up the set of Late Night with Seth Meyers, sharing her side of a truly wild story. It involves a pet snake, fellow star Zoe Kravitz, and a rather dramatic bathroom incident at Swift’s Los Angeles home. This isn’t just any celebrity anecdote; it’s a testament to the bizarre moments that can happen even in the most famous circles.
The whole thing kicked off earlier this year when California wildfires forced many to evacuate. Kravitz, 36, and her mother, Lisa Bonet, 57, needed a place to stay. Swift, 35, graciously offered her home. Now, here’s where it gets interesting: Bonet owns a pet Burmese python named Orpheus. During their stay, Orpheus managed to squeeze into a tiny hole in Swift’s bathroom wall. Kravitz had previously shared her version of events on Meyers’ show back in August. She explained that Bonet grabbed the snake’s tail. Then, Swift’s house manager bravely found a crowbar. He proceeded to "destroy" the bathroom to successfully retrieve Orpheus.
Nearly two months after Kravitz’s initial telling, Swift gave her perspective on the NBC show on Wednesday, October 8. She started with a chuckle, "I just want to start by saying we all have that friend." Swift remembered getting a call from her head of security, who was trying to explain the unfolding chaos.
Her first question was simple: "What snake?" Swift recalled listening intently, thinking, "Uh-huh, okay, okay." She paused, adding, "And I hate to mention a friend by their first and last name, but it is important in this situation." She then painted a vivid picture: "Zoe Kravitz and Lisa Bonet are holding a Burmese python. It’s halfway in the wall. There’s a man standing with an axe, who has just destroyed a custom-built antique cabinet."
Swift’s description continued, full of delightful amusement. "There are splinters on the floor. In my mind, they’re looking over their shoulder. This is an Annie Leibovitz photoshoot." She found the whole scene incredibly chic. "It’s the most chic thing I’ve ever heard in my life. Zoe is wearing, like, The Row head to toe. And I’m thinking, ‘This is a YSL ad, not a problem.’" She even admitted, "It sounds incredible. I’m sorry I didn’t see it."
Swift confessed she couldn’t even be mad. She knew Kravitz well enough to realize she wouldn’t hear about the snake or the damaged furniture until everything was fixed. "I played a little game with myself," Swift said. "I know her so well… I just had a countdown on my phone, counting the days. I think it was like three weeks, exactly the time it took to fix the damaged cabinet."
When Kravitz finally confessed, Swift said she was "sitting at my house." Kravitz said, "Hey, I mean, I’m going to tell you something that happened now that it’s fixed." Swift, already in on the secret, replied, "You had a snake in the house, it escaped, it was in the wall, they had to use an axe, and they had…" Kravitz, surprised, cut in, "I told them not to tell you." Swift simply told her friend, "Dude, I’ve been laughing about this for three weeks."
