After many months of intense fighting, a glimmer of hope may be appearing in the Gaza Strip. Both the Israeli government and the Hamas group have shown they are willing to consider a peace plan put forward by former US President Donald Trump. This unexpected willingness could mark a big change in the ongoing conflict.
On Saturday, the Israeli Prime Prime Minister’s Office announced its readiness to act immediately on the first part of Trump’s plan. This came just hours after Hamas released its own statement. Hamas said it would join talks to release all hostages right away, based on the plan’s framework. However, they did not agree to all conditions without question.
Hamas communicated through mediators that it was open to discussing the details of a hostage exchange. They also agreed to hand over control of Gaza to an independent Palestinian administration. This new administration would need national support and backing from Arab and Islamic nations.
Donald Trump, who had earlier warned of “hell on earth” if Hamas did not accept the plan by Sunday, posted his thoughts on Truth Social. He wrote that he believed Hamas was ready for lasting peace. Trump then called for Israel to stop its air attacks right away. This, he said, would allow for the safe release of the hostages.
While Israel confirmed it would move ahead with the plan’s first phase, its statement did not mention Trump’s demand to immediately stop bombing Gaza. Likewise, Hamas did not address key points. These included disarming its fighters or allowing an international committee, led by the US and called “Board of Peace,” to oversee Gaza.
The Trump peace plan has several main conditions. One is the release of the remaining 48 hostages within 72 hours. Another major condition is for Hamas to give up its control of the Gaza Strip. Many people thought Hamas would never agree to this, as it had been a firm “red line” for them.
Following these positive signs from both sides, Egypt, a country helping with the talks, shared its view. It called Hamas’s stance a positive step. Egypt urged everyone involved to work together to end the war. Qatar also welcomed the news and announced it would start talks with Egypt and the US. Their goal is to finalize the peace plan.
