The decision came from Film.ca Cinemas, located in Oakville, Ontario. This cinema announced it would no longer screen these popular Indian films after facing a series of alarming incidents. These violent acts, which include arson and a shooting, are linked to the showing of South Asian movies at their location.
A Frightening Series of Events
Trouble first hit the cinema on September 25. Two people tried to set fire to the theater’s entry gate using red gas cans. The fire damaged the outside of the building. Luckily, staff quickly put out the flames, preventing them from spreading inside. Security cameras caught the entire event. Then, just a week later, on October 2, another scary incident unfolded. A person fired several bullets at the theater’s door before running away.

Film.ca Cinemas shared a message on its X (formerly Twitter) page about the ongoing issues. They explained that this wasn’t the first time they had dealt with threats and vandalism related to showing Indian films. The theater made it clear that these repeated incidents are upsetting. However, they stressed that nothing would stop them from offering a safe place for their community to enjoy movies. Police confirmed they are looking into both crimes, stating that the theater was indeed the specific target.
‘Kantara Chapter 1’ Continues to Shine
Despite the unfortunate events in Canada, ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ continues its successful journey at the box office. The film, which hit theaters on October 2, had a fantastic opening day.
