Resident Evil Requiem: Director Confirms Hooded Figure is Brand New Character

For months, fans have buzzed with theories about a mysterious hooded figure in the Resident Evil Requiem trailer. Many thought it signaled the return of a beloved older character. Now, the game’s director has put those theories to rest. This enigmatic person is indeed a brand-new face for the series.

Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil Requiem, confirmed this news to TheGamer. He noted the hooded character first appeared in a game trailer shown at gamescom 2025. Nakanishi clarified that this is absolutely a new individual, not someone from the past. Requiem marks their very first appearance in the Resident Evil universe.

Nakanishi shared his thoughts on the fan reaction. “Everyone believed [the hooded man] was a returning character,” he explained. “There was wide guessing about who it might be. But we don’t always want players to have those kinds of expectations.” He added, “This character is new. We are very clear about this. He was made for this story. Details about him have not been shared before. We hope he helps explain the game’s story and setting.” This approach signals a fresh direction for the game’s narrative.

Despite this clear confirmation, whispers about other returning characters still circulate among fans. Much of this chatter centers around Leon S. Kennedy. The fan-favorite protagonist is often rumored for new installments. Whether Leon will truly appear in Requiem remains a question for players to ponder.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27, 2026. It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
