Anthony Martial, the talented French forward, has just joined Rayados de Monterrey. The 29-year-old left AEK Athens for the Mexican club. This move brought the former Monaco and Manchester United star to Liga MX. The transfer fee was a little over one million euros.
But here’s where the story gets interesting. Eduardo Saracho, a director at Pumas, recently spilled the beans. He said his club had everything in place to welcome the French ace. It seems a rival team swooped in and snatched him away.
Saracho explained their side of the deal. “We reached an initial agreement,” he recalled. “Then a formal written proposal followed. We were already sorting out every last detail. This included visas, flights, and all the other arrangements. We were at that perfect stage, where everything feels settled.”
Then, things went quiet. “Suddenly, there was silence,” Saracho continued. “Then, ‘boom!’ Monterrey announced the signing. We found out about it the same way everyone else did.” It was a real punch to the gut for Pumas, seeing their target go to another team so unexpectedly.
