Long-time Battlefield players likely remember the amazing destruction mechanics in Battlefield 4, called Levolution. It let players tear apart parts of the map, and it really wowed everyone who played. But for Battlefield 6, the game makers are taking a different approach.
Christian Grass, who leads Ripple Effect, one of the teams working on Battlefield 6, shared his thoughts with Edge magazine. He admitted his team loved how exciting that old destruction looked. “We really liked those spectacular destruction visuals,” Grass said. “It was great visually and audibly, super cool.” But things are changing for Battlefield 6, which is set to launch on October 10th. This time, the team wants destruction to mean something in the game.

Instead of just cool explosions and falling buildings, they are aiming for “strategic destruction.” Grass explained the new goal. They want players to wreck buildings or other objects to force out enemies hiding inside. This means every act of destruction should have a clear purpose during a firefight. You might bring down a wall to open a new path or to remove enemy cover.
The reason for this change is simple. “If you can destroy everything, and there’s nothing left, the game won’t be fun anymore,” Grass pointed out. If players could level entire maps without consequence, the game would lose its tactical depth. It would just be a simple shooter.
So, while the amazing, widespread chaos of the past might be toned down, it’s a trade-off for a more engaging experience. The developers believe this shift keeps the game exciting and encourages smarter play. It ensures that every explosion and crumbling structure helps you win, not just look cool.
Battlefield 6 is scheduled to arrive on October 10th. It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You can read more about what Christian Grass shared in the original interview: GamesRadar.com
