A powerful blast tore through a restaurant and bar in Madrid, Spain, on September 13. The explosion rocked the Vallecas neighborhood. It left 25 people hurt, with three seriously injured. Thankfully, no one died in the incident. Officials also confirmed that no one was trapped under the rubble.
Photos from Madrid’s rescue teams showed widespread destruction. The ceiling had caved in. Doors were ripped from their frames. Broken glass littered the street. Fire trucks, ambulances, and police flooded the area.
Fernando Sánchez lives nearby. He recalled the moment. “I was home and felt the explosion,” he said. “We ran outside right away. It was pure chaos. People tried to move cars that were blocking the way.”
Emergency crews jumped into action. Civil protection and medical staff treated all 25 injured people. Rescue workers used sniffer dogs and drones to check the site thoroughly. They made sure no one was caught beneath the collapsed structures.
Spanish news outlets quickly pointed to a gas leak as the cause. However, Inmaculada Sanz, a Madrid security and emergency official, urged caution. She stated that it was “too early to conclude the cause.” The investigation is still ongoing.
As a safety measure, residents from nine nearby buildings had to leave their homes. They will be displaced for at least a few days.
