Hansika Motwani, Mother Face Cruelty Trial; High Court Rejects Quash Plea

Actress Hansika Motwani, a familiar face in the entertainment world, is now grappling with a tough legal battle. Her former sister-in-law has accused her of serious cruelty. This situation became even more complicated when the Bombay High Court recently rejected a plea from Hansika and her mother, Jyothika Motwani. They had asked the court to cancel the case filed against them. Because of this decision, the case is now moving to trial. This means more worry for the actress and her family.

The Heart of the Matter

The core of this dispute involves Nancy James, who was once Hansika’s sister-in-law. Nancy has made strong allegations against both Hansika and her mother. Nancy married Hansika’s brother, Prashant Motwani, in March 2021. Soon after the wedding, Nancy claims she faced both mental and physical mistreatment from her in-laws. Her complaint states that they kept asking her for expensive gifts and money.

Serious Legal Charges

Nancy’s complaint mentions specific legal sections that apply to her situation. These include Section 498A of the Indian Justice Code. This section deals with cruelty related to dowry. Another charge is Section 352, which covers intentional insult and threats. With these sections in the police report, Hansika and her mother must now prepare to face the court.

Nancy’s Personal Struggles

Nancy shared that her marriage soured very quickly. She alleges that pressure from the Motwani family even forced her to sell her own apartment. She experienced constant financial and emotional stress. This took a toll on her health, leading to a serious illness called Bell’s Palsy. Nancy says that what started as a grand wedding ended in just one year, with her and her husband separating.

Courtroom Developments

Earlier, in February 2025, Hansika and her mother had received a small win. The Sessions Court granted them anticipatory bail, which protected them from immediate arrest. After this, the actress asked the High Court to cancel the police report entirely. However, the court did not agree. It made it clear that the full truth of these allegations will only be uncovered during the trial.

A Double Whammy for Hansika

Sources close to the situation suggest that this ongoing legal fight is also affecting Hansika’s personal life. Reports indicate there is tension in her marriage to businessman Sohael Khaturiya. This means Hansika is currently facing significant challenges on both her professional and personal fronts.
