Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who leads Myanmar’s military government, is set to make another important stop in China. He will meet with Chinese business leaders a second time. This trip aims to deepen economic ties and attract fresh investments into his country. The move highlights Myanmar’s ongoing efforts to secure economic cooperation.
According to a report from the Irrawaddy news website on September 3, 2025, Min Aung Hlaing will attend the “Myanmar-China Economic Cooperation” meeting. This event is scheduled for September 6 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Chengdu. It follows an earlier meeting with Chinese investors in Tianjin. Both gatherings share a common goal: to boost economic partnerships and bring new money into Myanmar.
The invitation for the Chengdu meeting came from the Myanmar Consulate in Chongqing. It lists several key attendees. Representatives from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) will be there. Also joining will be members of the Myanmar-India-China International Cooperation Association (MICA). The meeting also targets Chinese businesses involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Companies working on the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor are invited too. Other Chinese firms keen on various projects can also participate. Those interested must submit their details, identification, and any questions beforehand.
During his previous visit to Tianjin, Min Aung Hlaing made a strong appeal to Chinese investors. He invited them to put money into several key areas. These included trade, infrastructure, and electric vehicles. Mining, energy, and natural gas also featured prominently. That initial meeting proved fruitful. It led to the signing of seven Memoranda of Understanding. These agreements covered topics like sharing information, supporting small and medium-sized businesses, and customs duties.
