Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian Bandra Restaurant Closes Amidst Rs 60 Cr Fraud Allegations

The buzz in Mumbai’s dining scene is bittersweet. Shilpa Shetty, the well-known actress, has confirmed that her popular Bandra restaurant, Bastian, is closing its doors. She shared the news directly with her fans, marking what many see as the end of an era for the city’s vibrant nightlife.

The decision comes at a challenging time for Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra. Recently, the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) filed a fraud case against the couple. The allegations involve a substantial sum of 60 crore rupees, adding a layer of complexity to the restaurant’s closure.

Bastian’s Last Hurrah

Bastian was more than just a place to eat. Since opening in 2016, it quickly became a go-to spot for celebrities and business leaders. Famous for its delicious seafood, it was a social hub where deals were made and stars mingled. Shetty and Ranjit Bindra’s partnership made Bastian a true Mumbai hotspot.

Shilpa Shetty expressed her feelings on Instagram Stories. She called the upcoming closure the end of an iconic journey. Shetty noted that Bastian gave her, and the city, countless wonderful memories. To celebrate these moments, she plans to host a special farewell night for loyal customers. It will be a chance to relive the good times one last time.

A Fresh Start

Despite the closure of the Bandra location, Shetty made it clear the brand isn’t vanishing for good. She announced a new chapter: “Bastian at the Top.” This new venue promises fresh experiences and renewed energy, ensuring the spirit of Bastian lives on.

The Rs 60 Crore Fraud Allegations

The financial troubles for Shetty and Kundra stem from a complaint by Mumbai businessman Deepak Kothari. He claims a fraud of 60.4 crore rupees. Kothari alleges that this money was given as investments and loans between 2015 and 2023. He further states the funds were then used for personal expenses. The case is linked to ‘Best Deal TV Private Limited,’ a company that is now closed.

The Couple’s Defense

Shilpa and Raj’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, has already responded to these accusations. Patil stated that this is an old financial matter. He noted that the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Mumbai heard the case in 2024. According to Patil, the entire issue is civil, not criminal. He also asserted that auditors have provided all necessary documents and cash flow statements to the investigating agencies over time.

Patil dismissed the allegations as “baseless.” He suggested these claims are an attempt to harm Shilpa and Raj’s public image. The lawyer also mentioned that his clients are preparing their own legal action.
