Puerto Rican actress, host, and model Karla Monroig recently shared some big news. She confirmed that she’s currently going through a divorce from singer-songwriter Tommy Torres. The couple had been together for almost two decades.
Karla spoke on Tuesday during an interview with the show “Hoy Día” on Telemundo. She explained that this decision wasn’t easy. Still, she believes it’s the best path for both of them and their family. “After 20 years together, nearly 17 of them married, a point comes when if things aren’t working, everyone deserves to find their own happiness,” she said while on the morning show discussing “facts about your life.” She added that it’s wise to take different paths. Karla made it clear that their separation is happening with respect and affection. Yet, it was a necessary step to take.
Divorce Is Always Tough
The 46-year-old explained that a big reason for their decision is to set a real example for their 11-year-old daughter, Amanda Zoé. “We want to teach our daughter that what matters most isn’t how things look on the outside, but living with true love,” she shared.
She also expressed thanks for all the support she has received during this time. “Divorce is always very tough, and I’m so grateful for the people who have been there to support me, to be part of my healing journey,” she stated.
Karla didn’t stop there. Soon after, she posted the video of her announcement on her Instagram account. She shared more thoughts about the split. “Sometimes fate pushes us… and today was no different,” she wrote. “The pain came with so much learning. I understood that letting go isn’t weakness. Instead, it’s the bravest act of self-love.”
Tommy Torres hasn’t said anything publicly yet. However, this past Monday, he shared a short video on his Instagram stories. It showed a beach scene with a rainbow. In the background, his 2012 song ‘El barco que se hunde’ (The Sinking Ship) played. This image the singer-songwriter shared suggests that despite the divorce, he feels at peace and calm.
