Lost luggage can turn any trip into a nightmare. Many travelers worry about their bags disappearing, but one man found a simple answer. He put an Apple AirTag in his checked suitcase. This small tracker helped him find his bag after it was stolen right at the airport.
Daniel Scott from West Hollywood was flying last week. He expected the airports to be very busy for the Labor Day weekend in the United States. To ease his mind, he decided to tuck an AirTag into his luggage. It proved to be a very smart move.
A Little Tracker Saved the Day
After a long flight from Salt Lake City, Daniel went to the baggage claim area. His suitcase was nowhere in sight. Airport workers searched too, but they couldn’t find it either. Daniel then pulled out his smartphone. He wanted to check the AirTag’s location.
What he saw next was shocking. His bag was moving. It was heading towards the rideshare parking lot, leaving the airport entirely. “I immediately started running to the Uber parking lot,” Scott told NBC4 Los Angeles. “When I got there, I saw it was still moving and had crossed the street.” At that point, Daniel knew. “Someone had definitely stolen my bag,” he thought.
The AirTag finally stopped moving about 800 meters away. It was inside an old, abandoned building that had boards over its windows. Daniel wasted no time. He called the police right away.

Getting His Belongings Back
When the police arrived, they shone lights into the building through a window. That’s when Daniel saw it. Inside, he spotted the thief. The person was wearing Daniel’s own shoes, shirt, and pants.
Police evacuated the building. They arrested several people. Daniel then entered to retrieve his things. He found his suitcase cut open. His clothes were scattered all over the building. Even with the damage, Daniel was happy. He got back about 90% of his belongings.
This experience taught Daniel a lot. He now tells every traveler the same thing. Use a device like an AirTag. It can help you find your bag if it ever goes missing. These small trackers are not just for keys. They can be a real lifesaver for your travel bags too.
