Manchester City’s long-time goalkeeper Ederson is moving on. The club confirmed on Tuesday that the Brazilian shot-stopper has signed with Turkish side Fenerbahçe. The transfer is reportedly worth €14 million.
Ederson leaves behind a strong legacy in Manchester. He joined City back in 2017 from Benfica, arriving with a €45 million price tag. Over the next eight seasons under Pep Guardiola, he made 327 appearances and won 18 major trophies. That run makes him one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
In a message shared with the club’s media team, Ederson reflected on his time in Manchester with pride and emotion. “I leave Manchester City proud of everything we achieved together,” he said. “It’s been an honor to wear this shirt so many times. With Pep, we won everything — we dominated the Premier League and conquered Europe.”
Looking back, he admitted he could never have predicted just how special the journey would be. “I arrived in Manchester eight years ago full of hope. I never imagined it would be this beautiful,” he added. “Playing for City has been the most special part of my life. I’ll always be a fan of this amazing club. I leave with my wife and children, but I’m leaving behind a big family. Once blue, always blue.”
Manchester City’s sporting director Hugo Viana also praised Ederson’s impact over the years. “No goalkeeper has won more Premier League titles than Ederson. That says everything about his quality and consistency,” said Viana. “He was vital to our success and helped shape the style of football we play. His skill and bravery made him a key figure in one of the greatest teams we’ve seen. He’s earned his place in City’s history, and we all wish him the best for what’s next.”
