A quiet Friday night in Phnom Penh turned tragic. Jessica Cariad Hopkins, a 34-year-old British woman, was found stabbed to death. Police quickly investigated, suspecting a jealous rage. They believe a love triangle sparked the violence.

Ms. Hopkins’ body was discovered around 11:40 PM on August 29. She was found in a public park in the Chamkarmon district. Authorities noted multiple stab wounds on her body, including her neck. It was a grim scene that shocked the local community.

Investigators wasted no time. Within 17 hours, they had a suspect in custody. Gidikila Nganda Glody, a 33-year-old Congolese woman, was arrested. Police found her at a hair salon, about 2.4 kilometers from where Ms. Hopkins was found. Video footage showed officers leading her away in handcuffs.

Phnom Penh Police Commander Chuon Narin confirmed the arrest. He stated that initial findings point to a personal dispute as the cause. The police believe jealousy, possibly from a love triangle, led to the killing. Such intense emotions can sometimes lead to terrible outcomes.

Ms. Hopkins was originally from Harpenden, Hertfordshire, in England. At the time of her death, she was living in a rented home. Her residence was in the Chroy Changvar area of Phnom Penh. The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office issued a statement. They are supporting Ms. Hopkins’ family and working closely with local officials.
