Grillitsch Joins Sp. Braga, Ambitious for Trophies and Europa League

Florian Grillitsch has landed in Braga with a fire in his belly, a seasoned Austrian midfielder ready to make his mark. At 30, with a contract running until 2027, he is not just joining a new club; he’s diving headfirst into a fresh challenge. He made it clear there’s no time to waste, only work to be done.

“I need to get ready fast,” Grillitsch shared, speaking to the club’s media. “There’s no time to lose; I want to start playing. Braga is a big club that plays good football. They want to achieve important things. We’re also back in the Europa League. I truly believe I made the right move.” His arrival follows his departure from Hoffenheim, signaling a new chapter in his career.

His decision wasn’t made lightly. Grillitsch found common ground with coach Carlos Vicens right away. “I spoke with the gaffer, and we had a great chat,” he explained. “We see football the same way, so we’re on the same page.” This shared vision is key for the player, who favors the number six role in midfield. He looks forward to playing alongside Portuguese veteran João Moutinho. Grillitsch has big hopes for the season. “I want to have a good season,” he said, “and maybe win some trophies.”

This isn’t Grillitsch’s first time stepping onto Portuguese soil, or even Braga’s pitch. He was in Portugal last season when Hoffenheim played FC Porto in the Europa League. Even further back, in 2017, he graced Braga’s stadium with the same German club, also in the Europa League. “I remember the stadium well,” he remarked, thinking back. “It’s not a normal stadium, with the rocks behind the goal. It was a good experience.” Now, those familiar rocks will watch him chase new glory.
