Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs, especially when you least expect them. For actor Rahul Dev, the past few years have brought a series of heart-wrenching goodbyes. The latest, just a few months ago, was the passing of his brother, actor Mukul Dev. This loss has left Rahul utterly broken, and he recently opened up about coping with such deep sorrow.
Rahul shared his feelings during a chat with interviewer Fareedoon Shahryar. He spoke candidly about the succession of losses that have rocked his world. “I don’t know what happened,” he admitted. “I mean, losing a partner at a very young age, then raising children. Then losing a father, then a mother, and now a younger brother. I don’t understand what to make of all this.” He described how life can feel normal one moment, then a phone call changes everything. “Sometimes you have to do something, and suddenly you pick up the phone, and you find out that person is no longer in this world,” he explained. “So yes, to put it lightly, it has been a bit difficult.”
Remembering Mukul Dev
Mukul was more than just a brother; he was a special part of Rahul’s life. Rahul shared that Mukul was two years his junior and truly “the darling of the house.” Despite the age difference, Rahul felt a strong sense of responsibility for him. “I used to advise him a lot about smoking and exercising too much,” Rahul recalled. However, he also believes in giving loved ones space as they grow. “But after a certain point, whether they are your siblings or your children, when they grow up, you must give them space. It’s difficult to do, but necessary.”

Mukul Dev was also an actor, and his work lives on. He was last seen in Ajay Devgn’s film ‘Son of Sardaar 2,’ which was released after his passing. This serves as a poignant reminder of his talent and presence in the industry.
Finding Strength to Move Forward
This isn’t the first time Rahul has faced such profound personal loss and its impact on his career. In 1998, he married Reena Dev, and they had a son together. Tragically, Reena passed away from cancer in 2009. This devastating event led Rahul to step away from work for nearly five years to cope and care for his son.
However, Rahul shared that his perspective has shifted over time. While the grief is immense, he knows he can’t take another long break from his career now. “Working hard is easy,” he explained. “But I’ve been through this once, so I took a big step. I was gone for four and a half years.” He added, “Now I cannot take this risk. I don’t have enough time to leave the industry. You become wiser. You realize that it’s all part of life. Nothing truly ends.”
Rahul believes that while emotions can be powerful, the most important thing is to face them head-on. “Our emotions take us somewhere, but I think the most important thing is to face them bravely,” he reflected. “Not with any carelessness, but with love. To give that situation as much love as possible. That is the only way to move forward.” It’s a powerful message of resilience, showing how even through the deepest pain, life finds a way to move on.
