Ayn, a company known for handheld gaming devices, just dropped exciting news. They unveiled the Ayn Thor, a new dual-screen portable player. It brings to mind classic gaming systems like the Nintendo DS.
The Thor’s look is truly special. It comes in a clear purple color, just like the old Game Boy Color. Beyond purple, you can also get it in black, white, and a rainbow version. This rainbow design takes inspiration from the buttons on the SNES console.
Specs and Options
The Ayn Thor offers different models to fit various budgets and needs. The basic model, called the Thor Lite, costs $249. The top-tier version, the Thor Max, will run you $429.
All versions come with two AMOLED screens. The main screen is 6 inches. It boasts a sharp 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution. Plus, it has a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The secondary screen measures 3.92 inches. It has a resolution of 1240 by 1080 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate.
When it comes to raw power, the Pro and Max models pack a punch. They use the strong Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The Lite model uses the Snapdragon 865 chip, which is still very capable.
For memory and storage:
- The Thor Lite includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
- The Thor Max can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM and a massive 1TB of storage.
Other Key Features
Every Ayn Thor model has a 6,000 mAh battery. They all run on Android 13, so you can play tons of Android games. Connectivity is covered too. You get a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a TF Card (microSD) slot. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also standard.
Ayn really focused on making this device tough. They paid special attention to the hinge, which can be a weak point on folding gadgets. The hinge is designed to be extra strong. It also includes an active cooling system. The joysticks use Hall effect technology, making them more durable than standard types.
Who Else is Playing?
Ayn isn’t the only one making dual-screen handhelds these days. Competitors include the Ayaneo Flip DS, which starts at $1,139. However, Ayaneo recently announced a more affordable model, the Pocket DS. Retroid also offers accessories to turn other devices into dual-screen setups.
If the Ayn Thor has caught your eye, pre-orders start on August 25th. Shipping is expected to begin in mid-October.
